FIRST DAY: TRANSFER OF INCOME + CAMPIÑA TOUR + LODGING

SECOND DAY: AREQUIPA - CHIVAY - THERMAL BATHS - LODGING

07:30 hrs, at 08:00 hrs, after breakfast Pick up from the hotel in Arequipa and departure to the town of Chivay (3:30 hrs by bus), making stops along the northern road in Pampa Cañahuas (National Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca, reserve of vicuñas), Tocrapampa, lagunillas and bofedales, Patapampa (mirador de los andes, 4900 msn m).

The sillar quarries in the city of Arequipa are located in the northwest part of the city, comprising the districts of Yura, Cerro Colorado and Uchumayo. The area, known as the Quebrada de Añashuayco, ("quebrada que el zorro", in Quechua) was born on the slopes of the Chachani Volcano and flows into the right bank of the Chili River, with an approximate area of ​​18 kilometers.

What is commonly known as "sillar" is a pyroclastic rock that has formed volcanic ash, originated after the emergence of fiery clouds to the earth's surface by fissures located in the Chachani volcanic complex millions of years ago.

In Arequipa, the word "sillar" is the name that was given at the time of the colony to parallelepiped stone blocks, used in the construction of churches, mansions, bridges and other buildings. This word was extended to the material and its use became popular until it became synonymous.

The exploitation of the quarries has had a gravitating presence in Arequipa, the earliest evidence of the use of "sillar" goes back a thousand years ago with the presence of the pre-Inca Wari culture in the Chili Valley, as evidenced by the archaeological site of "Corralones" located near the quarry "Mollebaya chico" in the district of Uchumayo.

The current sillar quarries are the product of the work of the Sillar Cutters, central figures in the history of Arequipa, who have contributed to the construction and reconstruction of the city over time. The process of extraction of the ashlar that they use, are ancestral techniques transferred from generation to generation, which have not changed much over the centuries, they are still using the same techniques and extraction tools of the Arab or Egyptian world, brought from Europe and spread in colonial times by the Spaniards.
