06:30 hrs. Early in the morning, our local guide will pick you up from your hotel in Puno and transfer you to the port. We begin our boat tour of Lake Titicaca by visiting "The Floating Islands of the Uros", a small community that has lived on these reed islands for decades. Centuries ago, the small indigenous tribe of the Uros conceived the islands as a way of isolating themselves and protecting themselves from the rival tribes, the Collas and the Incas. The people of the Uros harvested the reeds in the shallow waters of the lake, grouped them firmly and built platforms of floating islands with houses of reeds and canoes, thus creating their little world. On the islands we will learn with our local guide about lifestyle and customs. After strolling through the floating islands, we continue our trip to the "Isla Taquile" (2 hours approx.), A traditional Quechua speaking community, full of old agricultural terraces. The population of Taquile was relatively isolated from the continent until the 1950s, and the notion of community and family is still very strong among them. The weaving tradition of the island of Taquile goes back to the primitive civilizations, reason why it keeps alive in the present elements of the pre-Inca Andean cultures. All the weaving is done on fixed pre-inca looms and pedals. The most characteristic garments are the so-called "Chullo", a knitted hat with an ear flap and "The Calendar Waistband", which represents the annual cycles related to ritual and agricultural activities. When we reach the shores of the island of Taquile, we will have to walk along a narrow road, enjoying the breathtaking views of Lake Titicaca and also see beautiful little houses inhabited by the deceased inhabitants of the Inca culture. At the top of the island, you will have free time to explore this place on your own and then meet with the group for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we will descend to the port to take our boat back to Puno. We will return to Puno at 5:00 p.m. Approximately. End of the tour. What Brig? On this tour you should bring warm clothing since the temperatures in the afternoon are sometimes very cold. We recommend bringing gloves, wool caps, chocolates and a bottle of water. Sunscreen is extremely important because at this altitude the sun's rays are sometimes ruthless.
